Decorative Garland acid etched metal pendant shade designed by Tord Boontje. Exclusive to Habitat. A long metal garland of flowers that can be wrapped around a light bulb, it can be used singularly or in multiples to make a bold decorative statement.
Tord Boontje...is a Dutch designer who studied Industrial Design in Eindhoven before completing a Masters at the Royal College of Art in London. Tord has many awards for his work including being short-listed for Designer of the Year by the Design Museum London and winning Dutch Designer of the Year.
Garland...is the most successful of his creations having won much acclaim since being introduced by Habitat in 2002; including Best Lighting Design and Future Classic Award from Elle Decoration magazine; and is in the collections of the MOMA in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the V&A Museum in London.
Created by laser cutting a the pattern out of metal, it comes as a sheet and then you wrap it around your existing pendant or table lamp fitting to create the glorious shade (instructions are included) which glints and reflects the light beautifully- combine a few to get a larger, more impressive effect (I recommend 2!). One shade measures roughly 30 x 25cm although every one is unique and the dimensions depend on your construction. Maximum bulb 60w.
Warning: Some edges may be sharp. Please follow assembly instructions carefully. Please use protective sleeves provided. Ensure ‘garland’ is fitted above head height to prevent hair entanglement. Suitable for indoor use only.
Switch the power supply to the light off completely. Either un-plug the light or switch mains off at the fuse box.
Place the self-adhesive ring onto the lampholder. This ring will prevent metal parts from the Garland making contact with electricity. Replace the light bulb.
Cut the frame off the sheet with scissors.
Attach the Garland with the clasp to the wire above the lampholder.
Making sure no metal parts go inside the lampholder from the light to shape, by twisting the Garland around the light bulb and use the hooks to attach it to itself. It’s like making a flower arrangement. A larger effect can be created by using more Garlands and more light bulbs.
